Nexus Strip Page Count Finalized
over 11 years ago – Wed, Jul 15, 2015 at 08:13:43 AM

Steve has strips 1-20 done and just finished thumbnails for the rest of the story.  Strip count had increased from 35 to 46 pages!  That's nearly a year of weekly strips plus extras included in the printed paper.

If you are on the fence or can't decide I would suggest pledging 1 month of the Basic edition.

What's the difference between basic and premium?  You will be missing a copy of the writers script, nothing will be signed and your prints will be 8-1/2x11 instead of 11x17. If you're pleased with what you receive you can always add on months. Looking for another 700 backers to send ALL MAILED LEVELS OVER $20 a triple signed print of the original Nexus #1 cover by Paul Gulacy

Thanks for your support. Nearly 70% funded! Let's do this!

66% Funded - 20 pages inked - New Stretch Goal
over 11 years ago – Sun, Jul 12, 2015 at 02:31:11 PM

Getting very close to making this project a reality.  Steve has used funding from commissions to pay the writers and other staff, around $10,000 to date.

LOOKING TO HIT 1,000 BACKERS
Cost of printing 250 papers: $6 each
Cost of printing 500 papers: $3.50 each
Cost of printing 1000 papers: $2 each

NEW STRETCH GOAL: 1000 BACKERS
If we hit 1,000 bakers then the Nexus #1 cover will be signed by Baron, Gulacy, and Rude, and given as a bonus to ALL MAILED TIERS OVER $20

WHAT ELSE MAY BE INCLUDED
The plan is to publish at least an 8 page paper every month.  As the budget & number of subscribers rises, so can the page count.  Half of the pages will include Nexus, and what else?

Eggbird is getting his own strip (the funny orange bird that you see hopping around Ylum)
Baron wrote a short strip titled DIXON AND THE DUDE that was hilarious and will likely make a return, drawn by Steve in a "Beevis and Butthead" style
    Exclusive unpublished art
    Appearance schedule and news
    Letters column

STEVE SHOWN HERE TOUCHING UP THE COLORING:

Here is a look at the first 20 strips!  That's nearly 6 months that are ready to color and go!  Steve is laying out the next 15 pages now.

Not all the strips are 1 page.  Several are 2-4 pages and they will be released together.  Strip #1 which is an origin retelling, is 4 pages bringing the count on the 1st newspaper to 6 Nexus strips pages.

Exciting adventures await inside these pages bringing back all your favorites including the Badger and introducing at least 3 new characters!

 Thanks for your support!

64% Funded - Note from The Dude!
over 11 years ago – Thu, Jul 09, 2015 at 03:49:53 PM

Well, here I am, Steve Rude the Dude, writing to you all personally during this important Kickstarter campaign, as we try and raise some bread to finance a couple “dream projects” of mine. The projects of which we now know as the Nexus and The Moth comic strips! Though I happen to be at the keyboard as I write this, I’m happy to be taking a temporary break to rest my eyes and write this. So, here’s a few tidbits to keep you on the inner scoop on things...

Would you be surprised to know that I’ve actually spent the last several months involved in the creation of these strips? I’ve always been told that when doing newspaper strips, you have to get several weeks ahead to provide space for deadlines. So me, being the sort of compliant guy that I can occasionally be, that’s what I obligingly set out to do. Interestingly, though it is the Nexus strip that currently occupies my time at the board, my initial plans were to begin with the creation of new Moth strips. When script problems began to snag the start-up storyline with that particular strip, and with Nexus writer Mike Baron coming up with a dutifully engaging story line for our Nexus saga in the meantime, I simply did what any guy with an I.Q. over 50 would do—I switched strips!

Some of you might also be surprised to find out how far we’ve progressed with both strips, so concerned was I to get ahead of my self-appointed deadlines and not see anyone deprived of the cultural richness that these projects are certain to elevate our collective lives with. Here’s the way the schedule breaks down so far: We’ve got 20 individual strips already written and drawn for Nexus, with at least 15 more to go. We have at least 8 strips already written and drawn for the Moth. The writers for both strips have been paid. The artist has not. But, despair not, faithful ones. If we reach our Kickstarter goal, the artist on these strips (that’s me, the humble Dude) shan’t have to worry about such paltry concerns like mortgages, nutritional sustenance, and other things in life too trifling to even sweat. The Sillies, (Brandon and Jessica) have long since passed the Diaper fund stage, and Chloe, the blowhard, the Dude family dog, has plenty of puppy chow to last her through the hot AZ. summer. So let’s see how we can do with this campaign. Gino has been giving me daily reports on our progress--many of you clearly going beyond your means to support our cause, and I recognize many of the names of our donators, which always brings a smile to my clearly aging face.

In the meantime, I’m going to begin drawing the 21st Nexus strip! All of us at Rude Dude—writers Mike Baron and Gary Martin, colorist Glenn Whitmore, designer Mike Jones, and traffic managers Princess Gino Jaynelli and her brother Tony--await your eventual reaction to our contributions in reviving the full-page, adventure comic strip!

Yours for the cause, with ink on his hands,

I remain,

Steve Rude The humble Dude
